Penn State Divers Win NCAA Zone A Diving Championship

State College, Pa., March 15, 2002 ¡ª Senior men¡¯s diver Steve Bohner (Lansdale, Pa.) and sophomore women¡¯s diver Maggie O¡¯Brien (Minnetonka, Minn.) won their respective diving event at the NCAA Zone ¡®A¡¯ Diving Championship hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Bohner won the 3-meter springboard with a score of 559.35 points. Michael Wells of Pittsburgh finished second with 525.45 points. Penn State freshman Marc Gastaldo (Winslow, Maine) placed sixth with a score of 486.0. The top two places earn a trip to the NCAA National Championships.

O¡¯Brien won the 1-meter springboard with a score of 269.60. Melanie Loftus of Yale placed second with a score of 265.25. Penn State freshman Corey Pagnotta (Westport, Conn.) placed fifth with a score of 252.85.

Penn State¡¯s divers will return to action tomorrow. The men will compete in the 1-meter springboard, while the women compete in the 3-meter springboard. Once again, the top two qualifiers earn a berth to the NCAA
