Lion Men Maintain Eighth Place after Second Night of Championship Competition




Day Two Results

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.; Feb. 24, 2006 - After the second night of finals competition at the 2006 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Penn State is in eighth place with 130 points. Indiana leads the competition with 497.5.

Sophomore Kyle Miranda (Louisville, Colo.) took an NCAA "B" cut time in the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing ninth with a time of 54.82.

Freshman Daniel Calderon (Bowie, Md.) captured 12th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:58.98.

Sophomore Josh Graham (Newport News, Va.) placed 13th in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:38.70.

Additionally, freshman Pat Schirk (Pottstown, Pa.) and senior Shawn McLin (Sinking Spring, Pa.) finished 9th and 10th respectively in the 100-yard Backstroke. Schirk finished in 49.45, followed by McLin in 49.47.

The 800-yard Freestyle Relay team composed of sophomores Sean Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Graham and freshmen Spencer Maglich (Sarasota, Fla.) and Schirk finished eighth with a time of 6:37.71.

The Penn State 200-yard medley relay team was unable to obtain points for the team because of a disqualification.

Senior Adam Pierce (Conroe, Texas) and junior Mike Alderman (Arlington, Va.) obtained points for Penn State after finishing 13th and 15th respectively in the 3-meter diving preliminary.

Preliminary competition begins at noon tomorrow in the Counsilman- Billingsley Aquatic Center. The 2006 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships conclude with finals competition beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow night.
