IOWA CITY, Iowa (Jan. 29, 2005) ¨C Three Penn State menĄŻs swimmers had two wins each as the Nittany Lions had a big weekend in the pool, sweeping Iowa and Missouri with scores of 227-136 and 189-178, respectively.
Junior Shawn McLin (Sinking Spring, Pa.), freshman Sean Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Dustin Thompson (Munster, Ind.) had two wins each for Penn State. McLin added wins in the 400 medley relay (3:26.17) and 400 freestyle relay (3:04.60) to bring his two-day event win total to five. Biedermann won three events on the weekend, taking first in the 200 freestyle (1:42.23) and 400 freestyle relay (3:04.60) on Saturday. Thompson finished first in the 200 butterfly (1:53.67) and the 500 freestyle (4:35.44) to bring his two-day win total to four events. McLin was joined on the 400 medley relay winning team by freshman Kyle Miranda (Louisville, Colo.), junior Chris Ippoliti (Berwyn, Pa.) and senior Daryl Northrop (Verona, N.J.). McLin and Biedermann swam with sophomore Dan Kaiserian (Radnor, Pa.) and senior Patrik Johansson (Lund, Sweden) to win the 400 freestyle relay. The Nittany Lions will host their annual Senior Day when Big Ten rival Ohio State comes to Happy Valley for a two-day dual meet Feb. 4-5 at McCoy Natatorium.
