Swimming and Diving Teams Upset Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich., - January 25, 2003 ¨C The Penn State menĄŻs and womenĄŻs team upset Michigan State on Saturday, Jan. 25 in East Lansing, Michigan. The No. 17 men dropped the Spartans 275-94, while the No. 20 women set the Lady Spartans back 158-83.

The men came off with an impressive Big Ten victory on the road. Senior Jaffrey Clark (Malvern, Pa.) won the 200 IM, touching the wall in the time of 1:55.70. The 400-Free Relay team of Daryl Northrop (Verona, N.J.), Eugene Botes (Thorton, Pa.), Todd Minnier (Avon Lake, Ohio), and Erik Gordon (Seattle, Wash.) also came out on top with a time of 3:04.02.

On the womenĄŻs side, it was junior Sally Anderson (Somerset, N.J.) who came up big in the 200-yard and 1650-yard Freestyle with the times of 1:51.64 and 2:17.50, respectively. The quartet of Andrea Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Anderson, Deirdre Dlugonski (Washington, Pa.), and Patty Murphy (Medford, N.J.) took home of the win for the 800-Freestyle Relay with a time of 7:29.18.

Both teamsĄŻ will be back in action on Sunday, February 2 at 12:00 p.m. in McCoy Natatorium for their final home dual meet versus West Chester. The senior squad members from both teams will be honored at the meet.
