Penn State MenĄŻs and WomenĄŻs Swimming and Diving takes win over USC
Columbia, S.C., January 11, 2003 ¨C Coming off a loss on both the menĄŻs and womenĄŻs side to Georgia and Florida State, the Penn State MenĄŻs and WomenĄŻs Swimming and Diving teams pull through with their first win of the season at the University of South Carolina. The Nittany Lions swam past the menĄŻs team with a 153-87 and the womenĄŻs team 144-98.
On the menĄŻs side it was junior Todd Minier (Avon Lake, Ohio) who came up big for the Nittany Lions winning the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 0:44.64. Minier also took the first place title in the 200-yard freestyle with the time of 1:37.39. Senior Matt Haupt (Carlisle, Pa.) also came up strong for the Nittany Lions winning the 200 yard Fly with a time of 1:50.49 and the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:51.67.
In womenĄŻs action sophomore Deidre Diugonski (Washington, Pa.) stole the crown for the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 0:23.56. Diugonski also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 0:51.15. Sophomore Courtney Stanchock (Bloomsburg, Pa.) continued her winning streak of the season with the 200-yard breast with the time of 2:18.23. Stanshock also won the 200-yard IM with a final time of 2:04.94.
Both the menĄŻs and womenĄŻs swim teams will be back in action on January 24, versus the Indiana Hoosiers.
