Alderman Places Sixth in Three-Meter at Georgia Diving Invitational

Mike Alderman finished sixth in the three-meter springboard at Penn State's final day at the Georgia Diving Invite.


ATHENS, Ga.; January 4, 2007 - The Penn State diving teams wrapped up their two-day stay at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Thursday with the men¡¯s three-meter and the women¡¯s one-meter springboard competition. Mike Alderman led the way with a sixth place finish in the three-meter, adding that to his eighth place finish in the one-meter yesterday to complete a successful meet for him. On the women¡¯s side, both Courtney Adlam and Kimberlee Peifer narrowly missed making the finals of the one-meter as both finish under four points out of 12th place.

Alderman placed eighth in the preliminaries with a score of 282.15 and in the final, improved his score to 299.95 to improve his standing to sixth. The 299.95 is also his second-best score of the year on the three-meter. Also for the Nittany Lions in the prelims, Josh Myers placed 15th with 233.70 and Pat Bukowski finished 20th with 171.65.

Both Adlam and Peifer finished tied for 15th in the prelims of the women¡¯s one-meter with 211.45. The cutoff for making the finals was 214.70, which the 12th place finisher scored. Both divers finished in the top 12 in yesterday¡¯s three-meter competition. Jocelyn Avery placed 26th with 165.55.

The Georgia Diving Invitational will wrap up tomorrow with the platform competition tomorrow, however the Nittany Lions are finished at the meet since they do not compete in platform diving. The diving teams will now head back home and await the arrival of the swimming teams back from training in Naples, Fla., and the teams will rejoin two weeks from Friday, on January 19th for a women¡¯s dual meet vs. Ohio State at 4:00 p.m. at McCoy Natatorium. Both the men and women will then take on Rutgers in a dual meet the following day, Saturday, January 20th at noon in what will be the final home meet of the year for the Nittany Lions.
