2007-08: Josh joined the Nittany Lions as a distance swimmer specializing in the 500 free, 1000 free, and 1650 free. He also competed in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM. His best finish was third place in the 1000 free which he achieved twice; once against West Chester and once against Indian River C.C. He also placed third in the 200 fly against West Virginia. Josh's best time in the 200 fly came at the Big Ten Championships. High School: Was on the swimming team for four years at the Atlantic Christian School in Egg Harbor Township, N.J....Also earned one letter in soccer....Named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in 2006....Awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award in Geometry, Algebra, Calculus and Physics....Was a member of the National Honor Society. Personal: Josh was born on August 15, 1989 in Olney, Md....Is the son of David and Linda Wakeley....Has an older brother, John (18), and a younger brother, Peter (10)....Also has three younger sisters, Bethany (16), Hannah (13) and Laura (6)....Has four uncles and two aunts that attended Penn State, including one uncle, Scott Wakeley that was on the swimming team from 1980-82 and an aunt, Marion Wakeley, who was on the swimming team from 1996-98....His father, David, swam collegiately at Bucknell....Intends to major in mechanical engineering. Why I Chose Penn State: "Great academic and swimming programs and its familiarity to me. I have wanted to go to Penn State since I was a little kid."
