Jason Yeisley Selected to Soccer America All-Freshman First Team
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; December 29, 2005 - Forward Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) has been named First Team All-Freshman by Soccer America, becoming the third Nittany Lion in the last two years to receive such an honor from the prominent national publication. Goalkeeper Conrad Taylor (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and forward Richard Costanzo (Pittsburgh, Pa.) preceded Yeisley on the Soccer America All-Freshman Team in 2004. For Yeisley, the recognition adds to an already impressive resume compiled through just one collegiate season. He was a unanimous All-Big Ten Freshman Team and Second Team All-Big Ten selection in addition to a College Soccer News All-Freshman Second Team choice. Also, Yeisley was honored as the Offensive Most Valuable Player for the 2005 Big Ten Championship. In 2005, Yeisley played an instrumental role in Penn State's run to its third Big Ten Championship. He topped the team and was among the conference leaders with nine goals and 24 points. Yeisley demonstrated a knack for generating points at critical times throughout his freshman campaign, as he lead the team with four game-winning goals. None were more important than the goals he scored to knock off two-time defending national champion Indiana in the regular season and in the Big Ten Championship game. His overtime game-winner versus Michigan, scored off a diving header, secured Penn State its first-ever undefeated and untied Big Ten season. Next season, Yeisley will team with 2005 First Team All-Big Ten and All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection Simon Omekanda (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Richard Costanzo to form one of the nation's most formidable front lines.
