Penn State Student-Athletes Earn 71 Academic All-Big Ten Fall Honors

Seventy-one Nittany Lion student-athletes, representing seven fall sports, have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Penn State's 71 honorees brings the Lions' all-time total to 3,130 over the last 15 years, which ranks first among all Big Ten institutions. Ohio State is second with 2,996 Academic All-Big Ten picks.
The Big Ten Academic All-Conference award winners also achieved excellence outside of the classroom. Field hockey senior Jen Long was named the Division I Defensive Player of the Year while football players Gerald Cadogan and Kevin Kelly were named First Team All-Big Ten. Men's cross country runner Tyler McCandless finished 12th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships while women's cross country runner Bridget Franek earned All-America honors this season. Men's soccer sophomore Treavor Gelsinger earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as women's soccer's Zoe Bouchelle, Katie Schoepfer, Jessie Davis and Alyssa Naeher all picked up First Team All-Big Ten recognition. Women's volleyball rounded out the fall honorees, with First Team All-Big Ten picks Christa Harmotto, Megan Hodge and Arielle Wilson also garnering league academic recognition.
The Big Ten recognized 682 fall student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
