Jason Yeisley Named National Player of the Week by College Soccer News
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa: November 14, 2005 - Freshman forward Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) was selected as the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News for scoring the game-winning goal in Penn State's 1-0 victory over Indiana in Sunday's Big Ten Championship game. The win secured the Nittany Lions' their third conference title in program history and the Big Ten's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Championship. Yeisley, a unanimous All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection and a Second Team All-Big Ten honoree, has put together a phenomenal first season, scoring nine goals and totaling 24 points, both team-highs. In Big Ten play, Yeisley topped all players in points and points per game and tied for the conference lead in goals and goals per game. Throughout the 2005 season, Yeisley has demonstrated a knack for generating points at critical times. He leads the team and is tied for the lead in the conference with four game-winning goals. His overtime game-winner versus Michigan, scored off a diving header, secured Penn State its first-ever perfect Big Ten season. Even though he has faced Indiana just twice in his young career, he has made the most of the stage and of the moment, scoring the game-winners in both contests. On Sept. 30, in front of a nationally televised audience in Bloomington, Ind., Yeisley's golden goal sent the Hoosiers down to defeat for just the third time on its home field against a Big Ten opponent. Penn State (12-6-2) was awarded a first round bye for the 2005 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship and will face the winner of the Seton Hall-Hartwick match-up on Tues., Nov. 22 at Jeffrey Field at a time yet to be determined.
