Men's Soccer Downs Cornell, 2-1, for Fourth Consecutive Victory

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 19, 2005 - Penn State extended its winning streak to four games Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory over Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. The win ups the Lions' overall record to 7-6-2 and their season road mark to 3-2-1.

Penn State staked itself a 1-0 at the 29:04 mark. Junior midfielder Jeff Chambers (Christiana, Pa.) served the ball into the box from 30 yards out to a waiting Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) who headed the ball in for his team-leading seventh goal of the year. The game winner was Yeisley's team-high fourth. Chambers now has four assists on the season.

The Lions' pushed their lead to 2-0 just over seven minutes into the second half when sophomore defender Geordie MacNeill (Richmond Hill, Ontario) notched his first goal of the season off a header. Senior co-captain David Walters was credited with an assist on the play.

Cornell got on the scoreboard just over 11 minutes later, cutting the Penn State lead in half, when senior midfielder Pape Seye put a shot into the upper right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Brian Scruton assisted on the Big Red's lone goal.

Goalkeeper Conrad Taylor (Colorado Springs, Colo.) furthered his ironman status, logging all available minutes in net for Penn State once again. The sophomore collected two saves in the win.

The Nittany Lions return to the road for their next game, traveling to East Lansing, Mich. to put their undefeated and untied Big Ten record on the line against Michigan State (5-3-5 2-1-1) on Sun., Oct. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET. With a win or a tie versus the Spartans, Penn State can secure its first-ever regular season Big Ten title outright.
