STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Oct. 10, 2001 -- The No. 17 Penn State men's soccer team fell to Cornell, 3-1 in Ithaca, N.Y. Wednesday night. The Big Red scored two first-half goals to go up 2-0 at halftime, a deficit too large for the Nittany Lions to overcome. Penn State is now 7-3-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the Big Ten. Cornell improves to 3-2-1 on the season.

Cornell sophomore Steve Reuter started off the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 22:25 mark. Teammate Ted Papadopoulos added another Big Red score at 37:24 to put Cornell up 2-0 going into halftime. Cornell junior defender Liam Hoban tallied the third goal of the evening at the 55:10 mark off a direct kick that somehow made it past the defense and into the goal. The lone Nittany Lion goal of the night was scored by junior Brent Jacquette (Wallingford, Pa.) at 69:23, but it was too little too late. Aiding on the goal was senior Ricardo Villar (Sao Paulo, Brazil). With the assist, the 29th of his career, Villar moves into second place on the career assists list. The current record is 32.

The Nittany Lions are back in action on Sunday, October 14 when they travel to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
