All-Tournament Team From Last Weekend's Penn State Nike Classic Includes Four Nittany Lions
September 19, 2000 - State College, Pa. -- For the second time in only three weeks, Derek Potteiger (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) has been named the MVP of a Nike Classic. Potteiger earned the first honors at the New Hampshire Nike Classic on the opening weekend of the season. Now Potteiger has also been named the MVP of last weekend's Penn State Nike Classic. Potteiger was the obvious choice after netting back-to-back game winning goals for the Nittany Lions in their only two games. On Friday, Potteiger scored just two minutes into overtime to secure a 2-1 victory over the College of Charleston. Potteiger then came back on Saturday to score the only goal in No. 2 Penn State's 1-0 victory over then No. 9 Virginia Commonwealth. Other Nittany Lions to earn all-tournament honors were Ben Dawson (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England), Chris Stout (State College, Pa.), and Ryan Sickman (Clarkston, Mich.). Defenders Dawson and Stout teamed with goalkeeper Sickman to almost completely shut down the opposing offenses over the weekend. Penn State's defense allowed only four shots in each of their games and only one goal for the tournament. 2000 Nike Classic All-Tournament Team
