Freshman Goalkeeper Garners Big Ten Weekly Accolades For Penn State Men¡¯s Soccer Team
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2004) ¨C Freshman goalkeeper Conrad Taylor (Colorado Springs, Colo.) saw his first collegiate action this past weekend at the Ohio State Classic. On Monday, he earned his first career Big Ten weekly honor as he was tabbed the conference¡¯s Defensive Player of the Week.
Taylor played all 220 minutes and made nine saves in leading Penn State to a 1-1 tie versus No. 6 North Carolina on Friday, and a 2-2 tie versus No. 8 Wake Forest on Sunday. He faced 22 shots in total, including 16 against the Demon Deacons. Taylor is the first Penn State player to garner Big Ten weekly honors since Chad Severs (Ocean City, N.J.) and Matt Novchich (Asheville, N.C.) swept the conference¡¯s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, Sept. 14, 2003. Penn State (0-0-2) will be tested once again this weekend. The Nittany Lions will play Georgetown 5 p.m. Friday and then No. 2 St. John¡¯s 12 p.m. Sunday at the University of Maryland Tournament.
