Penn State Men's Soccer Upset by Cal State Fullerton
Fullerton, Calif., Aug. 31, 2003 - A short-handed Penn State men's soccer team ran out of steam as Cal State Fullerton rallied for two second-half goals to upset the 16th-ranked Nittany Lions Sunday at the Soccer Town Classic. Penn State (0-2) went down a minute in the 53rd minute when Pasi Karpinnen (Kupopio, Finland) received his second yellow card of the match. Ignacio Cid beat freshman goalkeeper Matt Novchich less than five minutes later to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Cid put the game out of reach with a second goal in the 65th minute. Defending national champion and No. 1 UCLA won the tournament with a plus-four goal differential after tallying a 1-0 victory over Ohio State in Sunday's early contest. The Nittany Lions will be back in action this Friday versus Bradley at the Ohio State Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
