Nittany Lion Men's Soccer Defeats Syracuse 5-2 in Preseason Exhibition
STATE COLLEGE, PA., August 21, 2001 -- Penn State freshman Chad Severs (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) scored four goals in the first half to lead the Nittany Lions to a 5-2 victory over Syracuse Tuesday night in a preseason exhibition game at Jeffrey Field. Severs scored the first goal of the evening 1:39 into the game off an assist from senior Derek Potteiger (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley). The Severs/Potteiger duo teamed up again 3:38 later to score the second goal of the game, putting the Nittany Lions up 2-0. Senior Ricardo Villar (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Visconde de Porto) tallied his first goal after redshirting last year due to injury, heading in a goalkeeper tip. Severs then went on to score two more goals before the end of the first half. Penn State will be back in action Friday, August 21 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Bucknell in the regular season opener at Jeffrey Field.
