MSOC Announces 2017 Slate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s soccer team announced its 2017 schedule, Thursday June 1. This year’s schedule includes eight home matches at Jeffrey Field as well as two regular season matches and one exhibition match against teams that were selected for the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Bob Warming enters his eighth season at the helm of the Penn State men’s soccer program after leading the Nittany Lions to 73 wins in his first seven seasons at the head of the program.

“Every season has its own new life, the team is always different each year with a new energy and excitement. There is the excitement of new players that are coming in, sometimes a little nervous but ready to make their mark,” said Warming. “The returning players have learned a lot and improved physically, technically and tactically and will be ready to demonstrate that during our challenging schedule.”

Penn State kicks off the 2017 season with a home match Saturday, August 26 against Hofstra before opening up the month of the September with two away matches against UCI Friday September 1 and LMU Sunday, September 3. The Nittany Lions will return to Jeffrey Field for its final non-conference game before the start of Big Ten Conference play Friday, September 8 when it takes on Saint Francis at 7 p.m.

Warming and the Blue and White begin the quest for its sixth Big Ten Championship Tuesday, September 12 when it travels to Ohio State for a 7 p.m. contest. The Nittany Lions make their way back to Happy Valley for two matches when they take on reigning B1G Champion Maryland Sunday, September 17. 


 

 

The Nittany Lions will close out the month of September on the road with a Big Ten Conference match at Wisconsin Saturday, September 23 at 7 p.m. and end the month with a non-conference match at Temple Wednesday, September 27.

Penn State will play four home games in the month of October, including opening up against Michigan Sunday, October 1 at 7 p.m. After a week off the field, the Nittany Lions will take on Indiana Saturday, October 7 at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.

The Nittany Lions will make the short jaunt to Pittsburgh for a mid-week match Tuesday, October 10 before heading to the Great Lake State Saturday, October 14 for a 7 p.m. contest against the Spartans of Michigan State.

The Blue and White return to Jeffrey Field Wednesday, October 8 for a 7 p.m. contest against Detroit Mercy and head back out on the road Sunday, October 22 for a 1 p.m. game against Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Penn State closes out the 2017 non-conference and road slate Wednesday, October 25 with a 7 p.m. contest at JMU. The Nittany Lions play one final match at Jeffrey Field Sunday, October 29 against Northwestern when it will celebrate the careers of their four seniors following its 2 p.m. contest against the Wildcats of Northwestern.

The Nittany Lions will begin their hunt for the third Big Ten Conference crown in six years and its third NCAA appearance in six years starting the first week of November with the Big Ten Conference Tournament.
