UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's soccer head coach Jeff Cook has announced the team's 2018 spring season schedule which includes seven matches that will be played over six dates this spring. The kick-off of the non-traditional season will take place on Sunday, Feb. 25 at Holuba Hall when the Nittany Lions welcome La Salle and Seton Hall for a pair of one hour matches beginning at 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
"I've been very impressed by how well the team has responded during our training sessions, they've demonstrated a real desire to improve and have worked extremely hard both on and off the field," said Cook. "The spring schedule provides our student-athletes a great opportunity to put their hard work into effect during real game situations against some excellent teams, I can't wait to get started!"
Following the two games on Feb. 25 the Nittany Lions will host Akron Saturday, March 3 for a 4 p.m. match. The Zips finished the 2017 season ranked sixth in the nation after making it to the College Cup Semifinals and losing to eventual NCAA Champion Stanford. Penn State next welcomes SIGMA, a Canadian Academy, for a match Saturday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. before closing out the month with a home match against Bucknell Saturday, March 24.
Cook and his squad will play one final home match against UMBC Saturday, April 7 and then travel to Pittsburgh Saturday, April 14 to close out their 2018 spring slate.
"We will face some outstanding programs over the course of the spring season. I'm very pleased that we will renew some traditional rivalries over the next couple of months and that we will be challenged in each and every game."
