UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; September 19, 2006 ?C The Penn State Nittany Lion men??s lacrosse team will take part in the 15-team Price Modern Lacrosse for Leukemia Tournament. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. Paul??s School in Brooklandville, Md.
Penn State, under the guidance of veteran head coach Glenn Thiel, will take part in the morning session along with seven other squads and will play two games. The Nittany Lions will face North Carolina at 8:30 a.m. and then battle Syracuse at 10:10 a.m. Other teams participating in the morning session are Towson, Albany, St. John??s, Butler and Air Force.
The afternoon session features Johns Hopkins, Binghamton, Rutgers, Maryland-Baltimore County, Villanova, Mt. St. Mary??s and Washington College. The goal of the tournament is to raise money to help fight leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin??s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
In addition, the Nittany Lions will host their annual Varsity vs. Alumni game on Friday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. on the lacrosse practice field. Penn State is coming off an 8-5 season and will open up the 2007 regular season in March.
