STATE COLLEGE, Pa., July 30, 2001 - The Penn State men's and women's lacrosse teams have announced the hiring of new assistant coaches for the upcoming season. Former Nittany Lion Greg Jackson will join the men's lacrosse squad, while Andrea Hanley will assist the women's team. A 1997 graduate and the Nittany Lions' career goals leader, Jackson was a two-year captain of the men's lacrosse team and earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America honors in 1997. He was also the recipient of the Pittinger Award, given to the most valuable senior on the team. He ended his Lion career with 104 goals and 77 assists for 181 points which is second in PSU's career annals. He graduated from Penn State with a degree in administration of justice and is currently completing his studies at the Dickinson School of Law. "We are very excited about the addition of Greg to our staff. He will work with our offense, with particular emphasis on the attackmen," said head coach Glenn Thiel. "Greg spent a season teaching lacrosse in England and that experience will benefit our players." Hanley comes to Penn State after serving two years as an assistant coach in lacrosse and field hockey at Division III powerhouse Gettysburg College. While there, she took part in day-to-day responsibilities, including recruiting and scouting. Her main duties with the Bullets was working with the goalkeepers. A 1999 graduate of Drew University, Hanley received her master's degree in sports administration from Western Maryland College in May 2001. A four-year letterwinner in lacrosse and field hockey at Drew, she was named Division III Goalkeeper of the Year in 1999 in lacrosse. She is a two-time NCAA statistical champion for goals against average and posted the highest save percentage in the country in 1997. Hanley was also named regional All-American three times.
