Will Jones Earns USILA Honorable Mention All-America Honors
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., May 31, 2005 - Penn State men's lacrosse senior captain Will Jones (Annapolis, Md.) was named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association honorable mention All-American. Jones represents the 87th honorable mention All-America selection for the Nittany Lions and is the first Lion to earn the accolade since goalkeeper Chris Garrity and defenseman Matt Zappia both earned the award in 2003. This season Jones competed in all 15 games starting in 12. He was sixth on the team in points (15) and fifth in goals (13). Jones also recorded 53 shots while collecting 22 ground balls. On April 9, he tallied three goals against Hobart College to lead the Lions to a 19-13 victory and extend a Penn State winning streak, which would eventually reach seven games. Jones finished with a three-point game against Loyola and notched two goals against Ohio State in the season opener. Jones has been a consistent midfielder and a solid option for the Nittany Lions in his four-year tenure at Penn State. In 2004 he held a seven-game scoring streak while earning Eastern College Athletic Conference Preseason All-League Honors. Jones was also named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week in 2003 and earned ECAC Rookie of the Year honors after his freshman season. Penn State earned its second NCAA Tournament berth in three years this season and shared the ECAC title with Massachusetts. The Lions lost in the first round of the tournament to Maryland, 14-10, in College Park, Md.
