UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s lacrosse alumni Nick Aponte and Matt Florence were both selected in Major League Lacrosse’s annual draft Memorial Day Weekend.

The Chesapeake Bayhawks selected Aponte with the 30th overall pick in the fourth round, while the Denver Outlaws took Florence with the 72nd pick. The duo are Penn State’s 33rd and 34th selections in the professional rankings.

Aponte and Florence are eligible to play immediately, pending a deal from the respective teams.

Aponte, a two-time consensus First Team All-Big Ten performer, capped off a stellar season with 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points, tied for 10th most in a single season in program history. The USILA and Inside Lacrosse All-America honorable mention finished his Penn State tenure with 140 career points on 70 goals and 70 assists, ranking the 11th most by a Penn State player all-time.  His 70 career assists rank eighth most in program history.

Florence suited up for Penn State in three seasons of action after a season at Virginia his freshman year. Florence played a critical role in the Nittany Lions’ midfield, starting 11 games in 2017 while appearing in all 16. The redshirt-senior logged 11 goals and four assists his senior season, adding seven groundballs and a caused turnover. Florence finished his collegiate career with 48 goals and 16 assists for 64 points.
