Two Lions Earn USILA Honorable Mention All-American

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - May 29, 2002 - The USILA named senior captain Will Driscoll (Fairport N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore Rob Bateman (Parkton, Md./Hereford) 2002 Honorable Mention All-Americans. This is the first time a Nittany Lion has received Honorable Mention All-American since Chris Schiller earned the honor in 1999. Driscoll was also was named to the South roster for the 2002 North vs. South All-Star game.

This season, Driscoll led the Nittany Lions in shots (121), points (55), and goals (48). He became the new Penn State career goals leader after he scored six goals against the Delaware Blue Hens and currently sits atop the list with 127 career goals. Driscoll earned the team's MVP award and was a unanimous selection as First Team All-ECAC. He will represent the Lions and the South squad for the 2002 North vs. South All-Star game held in Baltimore, Md. This marks the eighth time in the last ten years that a Nittany Lion has earned a spot on the All-Star roster.

Rob Bateman finished the season leading the team and ECAC in groundballs with 94. He competed in all 13 matches and led the Nittany Lion defense in points with nine. Bateman earned ECAC Defense Player of the Week after he picked up six groundballs and added an assist in the match against Navy. He earned the Friends Groundball Award for collecting the most groundballs on the team and received a spot on the Second Team All-ECAC list.
