Ogelsby and Zappia Selected to Compete in the 2003 North-South All-Star Lacrosse Game

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 23, 2003 - Penn State seniors Luke Ogelsby (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Matt Zappia (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua, N.Y.) were selected to play in the 2003 North-South All-Star game the USILA announced today. Both were selected to play for the South team. The game will be held on Saturday, June 7 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.

Ogelsby had a stellar season with the Lions on attack leading the team in assists (20) and finishing second on the squad in points (33). He was second in assists in the ECAC with a 1.58 assists per game average. Ogelsby finished with over 100 points in his career as a Nittany Lion and currently holds the ninth spot on the Penn State career assists list with 63 assists. His best game this season came against Fairfield when he tallied three goals and two assists to lead the Lions to an 18-6 victory.

Zappia was selected as an alternate defenseman to the squad. He was a senior captain for the Lions this season and started in all 13 matches. He finished fifth on the team in ground balls (30) and recorded one shot against Virginia. Zappia also finished with an illustrious career at Penn State, which included Academic All-ECAC honors and ECAC Player of the Week honors his junior season.

Penn State finished its season with a 7-7, 3-2 ECAC record and earned its first ever NCAA Tournament bid. The Lions also sealed the No. 11 spot in the final USILA Top 20 poll, which marks the highest final ranking under head coach Glenn Thiel and the 14th straight year the Lions have been ranked in the poll.
