Three Lion Lacrosse Players Earn All-ECAC Honors

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 21, 2001 - Three Nittany Lion men's lacrosse players earned Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors which was announced by the league office. Senior defenseman Mike Herscha (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) highlights the Penn State honors as he was selected first team.

Herscha is one of Penn State's top defenders. A second-team all-ECAC selection last year, he picked up 34 groundballs on the season while starting in every game. His only goal of the season came during the 8-7 victory over Cornell.

Also earning all-conference accolades are senior Kevin Haggerty (Lido Beach, N/Y./Long Beach) and junior Will Driscoll (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport). Driscoll is the Lions' top attackman, leading the team with 38 goals and 47 assists. He was named conference Player of the Week on April 10 after leading the Nittany Lions with five goals and two assists in the 12-11 victory over No. 20 Hobart. Driscoll is also sixth in the country in goals per game with 2.92.

Haggerty, earning all-conference recognition for the first time, ranks 13th in the nation in face-off percentage at .601. Winning 83 of 138 face-offs attempted, he also collected 48 ground balls on the season.

Penn State was 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the ECAC during the 2001 campaign.
