Senior Laxers to be Honored
University Park, Pa.; April 25, 2000 -- The Nittany Lion men's lacrosse team will honor their seniors Friday April 28 before their game against Duke. The team's five seniors will take part in a pre-game presentation beginning at 2 p.m. on Jeffrey Field.
Jon Stillman (West Chester, Pa.) has played here at Penn State for two years following his transfer from Virginia Wesleyan College. He was called upon to switch from goalie to long-stick midfielder. His athletic ability and dedication have allowed him to compete for playing time with the defensive midfield unit. Stillman has played in two games so far this season. Wes Furchner (Abington, Pa.) has contributed to Lion lacrosse for four years. He holds reserve duty as a midfielder. With a great work ethic, Furchner has continually improved. This season he has played in seven games. Reserve attackman Mike McGrath (Bethpage, N.Y.) has had a college career plagued with injuries. However, each time he has overcome his injuries with renewed motivation and dedication to improve. This season McGrath has played in four games earning an assist and three groundballs. Tri-captain David Washo (Penfield, N.Y.) has been a mainstay of the defensive midfield unit for two years. He has continually improved since his freshman year, and now assumes a leadership role within the team. Washo played in ten games this season, missing two due to illness. He scored one goal for a 67% shooting average. He also picked up 16 groundballs. Over his career, Washo has scored four goals and an assist. Fellow captain Don Mayerhofer (Rockville Center, N.Y.) is the Lions top attackman. He was the leading scorer from last season, more than doubling his stats from the two previous years. Mayerhofer is anchoring the Lions' attack this season by providing leadership to a young attacking squad. He has played in all 12 games so far this year, scoring 17 goals and 24 assists for a total of 41 points. Mayerhofer also tallied 17 groundballs. Over his career, he has earned 42 goals and 44 assists.
