Chris Garrity Earns ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ¨C April 21, 2003 ¨C Penn State men's lacrosse senior Chris Garrity (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary¡¯s) earned ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Rutgers on Saturday, April 19. The distinction marks the first time in Garrity¡¯s career that he has won ECAC Player of the Week honors. Garrity had a stellar performance against Rutgers making 14 saves and allowing only six goals in the 7-6 upset over the No. 8 Scarlet Knights. Garrity moved into sixth place on the Penn State career saves list with his current total of 394 saves. He jumped former Penn State goalkeeper Chip Robertson who finished his career with 390 saves.

Penn State has won five straight games, which includes its last three ECAC match-ups to conclude league play. This is the Lions longest winning streak since 1997 when Penn State won six consecutive matches.

Penn State (6-5, 3-2 ECAC) will travel to Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, April 26, to take on the No. 3 Virginia Cavaliers in its quest to earn a NCAA Tournament bid. The Lions will finish out its regular season when they host Ohio State Saturday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m.
