The Lion Lacrosse Team Wins Against Hobart
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - April 7, 2001 - #19 Penn State broke a two-game losing streak today when they defeated #20 Hobart with a score of 12-11.
The game began with an EMO goal by Hobart's John Bogosian at 13:08. The Lions quickly rallied with sophomore Luke Ogelsby (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and junior Will Driscoll (Fairport, N.Y.) scoring the game's next two goals. The Statesmen answered with three goals of their own. A goal at 1:15 by senior captain Ted Holmes (Flourtown, Pa.) brought the first quarter score to 3-4 in favor of Hobart.
The Lions dominated the second quarter with sophomore Marshall Feldman (Davidsonville, Md.) earning a hat trick. Penn State's excellent defense kept the Statesmen at bay until one minute left in the half when Jamie Breslin scored followed by teammate Eric Burns. The score at the end of the first half was 7-6 with the Lions in the lead.
Penn State once again controlled the third quarter with senior Tim Emmick (Corning, N.Y.) scoring the first goal of the second half. A pair of goals by Driscoll on assists from junior Sean Droogan (Glen Head, N.Y.) gave the Lions a 10-6 lead. Hobart kept it a close game, however, by scoring the last goal of the third quarter, and the first two goals of the last period.
In the fourth, Driscoll and Droogan combined once again to earn the Lions two goals. Hobart scored the last two goals of the game. The first was an EMO goal by Jason Ouellet, and the second was from Kris Shore. The goals were not enough, however, and the Lions earned their fourth victory of the season by defeating the defending Patriot League Champions Hobart.
Senior goalie Matt Vallone played all 60 minutes. Vallone earned 18 saves with only 11 goals against. Vallone has earned 126 saves for the season thus far. This brings his save percentage to 65.6%, and his GAA to 9.06.
