Nittany Lion Men's Lacrosse Team Ranked No. 18 In Latest USILA Coaches Poll

Senior Greg Gurenlian and the rest of the Nittany Lion lacrosse team earned a No. 18 ranking in the latest USILA Coaches Poll. Penn State will head to Hobart this Saturday for a 1 p.m. ECAC game in Geneva, N.Y.

State College, Pa. - April 4, 2006 - Head coach Glenn Thiel's Nittany Lion men's lacrosse team re-entered the national rankings this week, earning a No. 18 spot in the latest USILA Coaches Poll. Penn State, which began the season in the rankings and had received votes in the last few polls, re-emerged in the top 20 after two straight wins over ranked foes.

Virginia (1), Cornell (2), Maryland (3), Hofstra (4) and ECAC Lacrosse power Georgetown (5) comprise the top five. Massachusetts (7) is also ranked in the poll while Loyola, Rutgers and Penn State are receiving votes. In all, five of the conference's eight teams are either ranked or receiving votes.

Penn State won 11-6 at No. 20 Fairfield two Saturdays ago and then beat No. 7 UMass this past Saturday, 7-5, at Jeffrey Field. The Nittany Lions are now 4-3 overall and in second place in the ECAC Lacrosse League with a 2-1 mark. Penn State treks to 4-4, 0-3, Hobart this Saturday for another ECAC road game. Action in Geneva, N.Y., begins at 1 p.m.
