Greg Gurenlian Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., March 28, 2005 - Penn State men's lacrosse junior Greg Gurenlian (Springfield, Pa.) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the week in a vote by league officials today.

Last Saturday, Gurenlian collected 12 ground balls, won 16 of 24 face-offs and recorded one assist in the 11-10 overtime loss to Fairfield. He leads the Nittany Lions in ground balls with 44 on the year and has won 66 face-offs on 103 attempts for a .641 average.

Gurenlian is first in the ECAC with a 7.33 ground balls per game average and holds the top spot over Georgetown defenseman Brodie Merrill.

Penn State (2-4, 1-0) will travel to Amherst, Mass. to battle conference rival Massachusetts on April 2. The Lions will then return home on Tuesday, Apr. 5 to host Mount Saint Mary's at 7:30 p.m.
