Cornell Downs Men's Lacrosse in Tight Match 9-8
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ¨C March 15, 2003 ¨C The Penn State men's lacrosse team dropped their fourth match of the season to Cornell today 9-8. Penn State (1-4, 0-1) has lost by no more than two goals in all four of their losses this season. Seniors Marshall Feldman (Severn/Davidsonville, Md.) and Rob Booth (Gladwyne, Pa./The Haverford School) led the Nittany Lions in scoring with two goals each. The Lions took a 7-5 lead into the fourth quarter of play. Cornell scored three consecutive tallies at the start of the period to go ahead by one goal. Sophomore Derek Howells (Niskayuna/Niskayuna, N.Y.) tied the game for Penn State at the 7:37 mark with his goal on an assist from senior Luke Ogelsby (The Haverford School/Bryn Mawr, Pa.). Big Red attackman Sean Greenhalgh clinched the victory for Cornell when he scored his fourth goal of the quarter with 6:01 remaining. Greenhalgh finished with five goals in the game. Penn State notched four goals and outscored Cornell in the third quarter 4-1. Sophomore Mike Jacober (Moses Brown School/Providence, R.I.) scored along with junior Greg Hale (Pittsford-Bridgeton/Pittsford, N.Y.) whose goal came with one second left in the quarter. Booth and Feldman also scored to pick up their second goals of the day. Cornell scored two goals, including a man-up goal from Greenhalgh to tie the game at three going into halftime. The Lions lone goal of the second quarter came from Booth who scored on an assist from Feldman with 4:08 remaining. The Nittany Lions took an early lead in the first quarter going up 2-1. Feldman scored his first goal of the day on an assist from sophomore Marc Young (The Haverford School/Devon, Pa.). Ogelsby notched his only goal of the game on an assist from freshman Nate Whitaker (Thomas Jefferson/Alexandria, Va.) with 1:19 in the quarter.
