Three Nittany Lions Earn 2003 Preseason All-ECAC Team Honors
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., February 5, 2003 - In a vote by ECAC league coaches, three Nittany Lions earned Preseason All-ECAC Team honors. Seniors Luke Ogelsby, Matt Zappia, and Chris Garrity were named to the team, which was announced recently. Luke Ogelsby started in 12 of the 13 games at attack and finished first in the ECAC in assists last season with 27 averaging 2.10 a game. He finished second on the team in points with 36 and compiled 37 ground balls, which was fourth best on the squad. Ogelsby was named to the ECAC Weekly Honor Roll twice after finishing with six assists against Air Force and four goals and four assists against Rutgers. Senior Captain Matt Zappia had a break out season last year at defense. He started in all 13 games while tallying two shots and one assist. Zappia was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against Virginia and was second team ECAC All-Academic at the end of the year. Chris Garrity was named preseason goalie of the year after finishing second in the ECAC in save percentage (.593) and goals against average (8.00). He started in every match last season making 144 saves. Garrity earned a spot on the ECAC Weekly Honor Roll after making ten saves and allowing only one goal against Fairfield.
