Sophomore Matt Shankoff became a key part of Penn State's efforts in the midfield last year, playing in nearly every game and earning valuable playing time in the heart of the season. Shankoff will be expected to play a short stick defense role in 2009.
LION CAREER:
2009: Shankoff played in 13 games and scored two points off one goal and one assists. He grabbed 22 ground balls and took five shots.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL:
Shankoff scored 42 goals and had 20 assists as a senior, garnering second team All-state and first team all-conference laurels. As captain, he led his lacrosse team to the Group 4 State Championship, wrapping up a stunning string of three straight state titles. He was also senior captain of Hunterdon Central's football team, starting at quarterback and leading HCHS to the Group 4 state title on the gridiron. He is the son of Karen and Michael Shankoff and has two sisters, Alissa and Jenna. Shankoff is a finance major.
COACHES VIEW:
`Likely shortstick running mate with Warner. Shankoff plays with a passion for the game and can be dangerous as a shooter in transition. Look for him to get some runs at both ends of the field. Matt gained valuable experience last spring, and should be a defensive leader this year." - Coach Thiel
