UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Athletics celebrated the topping off of Pegula Ice Arena on Friday morning. PSU Acting Director of Athletics Dave Joyner and Associate Athletic Directors Joe Battista and Mark Bodenschatz were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by the on-site construction crew and the Penn State hockey coaching staffs.
The highest piece of steel was put into place on Friday morning over the future student section. Two more spanning trusses are set to be erected on Saturday and Monday, respectively, effectively capping all steel work at Pegula Ice Arena.
GoPSUsports.com was on hand to take exclusive video and share interviews with Joyner and Battista. Also featuring in the video are Mortenson Construction Vice President Derek Cunz and S&R Enterprises' Mark Yerke.
A $90 million state-of-the-art facility, made possible from a $102 million gift from Terry and Kim Pegula, broke ground in January of 2012. The facility, which will house a 6,000-seat arena and a 300-seat community rink, is slated to open on Sept. 5, 2013.
