NCAA Defending Champ Lions Release 2005 Schedule

State College, Pa. - September 2, 2004 - Penn State, the reigning NCAA champion men's gymnastics team, today announced its 2005 schedule, which includes four home meets. The Lions will host intercollegiate meets with Navy and Temple on Jan. 21 in Rec Hall, Michigan on Feb. 19 in the Bryce Jordan Center, and Ohio State a week later on Feb. 26 in Rec Hall. Penn State will also host Japan on March 1 in Rec Hall to round out its home schedule. All meets begin at 7 p.m. The Michigan and Ohio State meets will both be double dual meets with the Nittany Lion women's gymnastics team.

In addition to the Lions' home slate, Penn State also travels to Army for a meet on Jan. 8 and then again for the West Point Open on Jan 28 and 29. The Lions head to Las Vegas for the Winter Cup on Feb. 4 and 5 before returning to Illinois, where they captured the 2004 NCAA championship, to meet the 2004 Big Ten champion Illini.

Only William & Mary then remains on the Lions' regular season schedule on March 12 at 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va. The Big Ten championships, which Penn State won in 2003, will be held at the University of Michigan from March 25-26 followed by the NCAA championships at Army on April 7-9 to round out the schedule.

Last April, the Lions won their first NCAA men's gymnastics title since 2000 and Penn State's NCAA-record 11th overall. Season-high team scores on four of six events propelled the Lions to the championship with a season-high score of 223.350.
