NCAA champion Kevin Tan returns to Penn State as assistant men's gymnastics coach.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., July 1, 2005 ¡ª Recent Penn State graduate Kevin Tan has been named Penn State¡¯s new assistant men¡¯s gymnastics coach. A member of Penn State¡¯s 2004 NCAA championship team, Tan was the Lions¡¯ first back-to-back NCAA champion on the still rings, capturing titles in 2003 and 2004. A six-time All-American, he served as an undergraduate assistant coach this past season for the Nittany Lions while completing his degree in finance.

"Kevin was an exceptional athlete at Penn State and we are excited to have him back¡ª this time as a full-time member of our staff,¡± said head coach Randy Jepson of the announcement.

A native of California Tan is a six-time All-American, who garnered honors on the still rings all four years at Penn State. As one of the dominant senior gymnasts in the nation during his last collegiate go-around in 2004,Tan was a Nissen-Emery Award Finalist. He was an all-Big Ten selection, winning both the still rings and parallel bars title at the 2004 championships. His still rings crown was his third-straight conference championship on the apparatus. Tan never finished lower than third on the rings at Big Tens during his dominating college career.

The Penn State men¡¯s gymnastics team finished the 2005 season with a fourth place finish at the NCAA championships.
