UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; June 20, 2007 Two members of Penn State's 2007 men's gymnastics national championship team, Derek Helsby (Orlando, Fla.) and Vladi Klurman (North Miami Beach, Fla.) have been selected to represent the United States in prestigious international competitions this summer.

Helsby and Klurman will travel to Bangkok, Thailand later this summer to compete as members of the U.S. delegation at the 2007 World University Games. The artistic gymnastics competition portion of the games is scheduled to take place from August 9-12. The format for the competition features five-man teams from around the world participating in team, all-around, and individual event sessions.

A four-time All-American, Derek Helsby will enter his senior season in 2008 as one of Penn State's top pommel horse, high bar, and all-around performers. In 2007, he was instrumental in helping the Nittany Lions capture their NCAA record 12th national title, earning 16 top-three finishes throughout the year, including a third place showing on the pommel horse at the team finals of the national collegiate championships.

An All-American on the rings as a junior in 2007, Vladi Klurman emerged throughout the season to become one of Penn State's most clutch and consistent competitors. He spent much of the year as the nation's No. 1 ranked vaulter, claiming first place finishes in meets versus Michigan and Illinois. His career-high rings score of 9.700 in the team finals of the 2007 national collegiate championships played a critical role in Penn State's come-from-behind title win.
