WEST POINT, N.Y.; April 8, 2005 - Senior Luis Vargas (Rio Pedros, P.R.) did what he came to do at the 2005 NCAA Championships, successfully defending his all-around championship with a 57.175 despite a torn ligament in his thumb. The mark is a new NCAA record under the current scoring system. He is the first NCAA back-to-back all-around champion since Jamie Natalie from Ohio State 2000-01. It is Penn State's first back-to-back all-around champion since Steve Cohen in 1966 and 67.
