No. 4 Penn State Posts 216.350 To Beat No. 10 Stanford By Almost Two Points

PALO ALTO, Calif.; March 7, 2004 The No. 4 Penn State menĄŻs gymnastics team beat No. 10 Stanford Saturday in Palo Alto, 216.350-214.575. A strong team performance brought home the win for the Lions, as only senior Kevin Tan (Fremont, Calif.) won his event, the rings, with a 9.800.

Tan finished second in the all-around with a score of 54.550 while sophomore Chad Buczek (Bridgewater, Mass.) came in third with a 54.000. Buczek placed second in three of his events, including posting a 9.300 on the floor exercise. Buczek tied for second on both the parallel bars (8.850) and the vault (9.350).

Senior Zack Roeder (Montrose, Pa.) also placed in three events for the Lions, including a tie for second with Buczek on the parallel bars. Roeder also placed third on the floor exercise (9.250) and third on the pommel horse (9.350).

In addition to TanĄŻs win, he finished second on the pommel horse (9.550) and third on the high bar (8.950).

Penn State returns to Rec Hall this Saturday, March 13, at 7 p.m. The meet will be a double dual with the menĄŻs team meeting Army for the third time this year, and the womenĄŻs team taking on Oklahoma. Penn State has defeated Army in its first two meetings, posting wins of 214.625-208.700 and 215.600-206.550, both at Army. The meet will be senior night for both teams.
