Buczek Finishes Sixth on Floor Exercise at Winter Cup
LAS VEGAS, Nev.; February 5, 2005 - Penn State junior gymnast Chad Buczek (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed sixth on the floor exercise Saturday at the Winter Cup in the event finals. Buczek's 8.450 earned him the runner-up spot while alumni Kevin Tan finished second on the rings with a 9.400. Last year's Winter Cup champion on the rings, and the 2003 and 2004 NCAA champion on the apparatus, Tan was bested by an unattached Eric LaMorte, who earned a 9.525 on the apparatus. Penn State resumes collegiate competition this next weekend, Feb. 12, at defending Big Ten champion Illinois. The Illini won the title on their home floor last year, while the Lions came in second and eventually took the 2004 NCAA championship, which was also held in Champaign. The meet begins at 7 p.m. local time next Saturday. The Nittany Lions return home on Saturday, Feb. 19, for a double dual with the women's team in the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State's men's team will host Big Ten foe Michigan, while Penn State's women's team will host George Washington. That meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
