WEST POINT, N.Y.; January 27, 2006 - The No. 7 Penn State men's gymnastics team won four of six events en route to clinching its ninth consecutive West Point Open Friday evening. The Nittany Lions amassed a winning team score of 206.800, significantly outdistancing second place Army (199.500). Temple placed third (197.050) while Navy took fourth (196.550).

Penn State compiled the highest team score on the pommel horse (33.950), an event in which it is ranked No. 1 in the nation, the rings (37.100), the parallel bars (32.050), and high bar (33.950). The Lions' total on the rings was a season high, easily topping its previous best of 35.700 attained last weekend at Michigan.

Sophomore Tommy Ramos (Guaynabo, P.R.) stepped into the spotlight Friday evening, spearheading the Penn State effort with victories on the rings and the parallel bars. His rings score of 9.800 was a career best. Ramos used these wins as a springboard to a second place finish in the all-around, his first-ever top three finish in the event.

Freshman Casey Sandy (Brampton, Ont.) defended his No. 1 national ranking on the pommel horse, taking first with a season-high score of 9.450. Sandy added a second place on the high bar.
