Nye Named District II Golf Coach of the Year
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. Dec. 17, 2001 -- Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye has been named the Sun Mountain Sports 2001 District II Coach of the Year by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Nye previously received District II Coach of the Year honors in 1993 and 1994. Nye has been coach of the Nittany Lions for 10 years and has seen all of his teams qualify for the NCAA East Regional during his tenure. His teams have won four Eastern Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships in 1996. Four Nittany Lions have been selected District II Player of the Year under Nye. Nye's teams have also excelled in the classroom, having achieved a team grade point average of greater than 3.0 in each of the past seven years. During the fall campaign, Nye guided the Nittany Lions to four top five finishes, including a first place finish at the Georgetown Invitational. Penn State won a total of four tournaments during the 2000-01 campaign. The Nittany Lions open the 2002 season March 9-10 at the Big Red Classic in Ocala, Fla.
