Mark Leon Finishes in a Tie for Sixth Place at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic
STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; November 23, 2004 - Penn State men's golf senior Mark Leon (Brampton, Ontario) finished in a sixth place tie at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic on Tuesday held at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas. Leon shot a three-round score of 209 (-4) which was five strokes off of the winner Nicholas Thompson of Georgia Tech. Play began on Tuesday with 26 of the 29 players in the field finishing Monday's suspended round. Leon fired a 69 in the first and second rounds to hold the third spot in the tournament. After shooting a 71 in the final round, Leon finished in a tie for sixth place with Spencer Levin of New Mexico. Both Thompson and Matthew Rosenfeld of Texas finished with a 204 (-9) at the conclusion of the tournament. On the first playoff hole, Thompson reached the green in two shots and grabbed par to take medalist honors. Penn State will begin a three-month break before traveling back to Howie in the Hills, Fla. for the Irish Spring Tournament to kick off the spring schedule on Mar. 7. The Nittany Lions will then travel to Humble, Texas from Mar. 18-20 for the Hall of Fame tournament hosted by the University of Texas.
