Two Former Penn State Golfers Advance to Second Round at PGA Q-school

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 6, 2006 ¡ª Former Penn State golfers Jimbo Fuller (1999-2003) and Greg Pieczynski (2002-2006) both qualified for the second round of the PGA Q-school after finishing in the top 25 of their qualifying tournaments.

Fuller, the Nittany Lions¡¯ all-time scoring leader having posted a 73.56 career average, shot three-under and tied for 12th after firing rounds of 71-70-74-70 (292). Fuller, of Jupiter, Fl., competed in a field of 74 golfers at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fl. He was the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Regional Player of the Year and a 2003 All-Big Ten selection, and he also holds the 54-hole record at Penn State after he shot a tournament-best 197 at the 2002 JMU Invitational.

Pieczynski tied for 18th at plus-four at the Treyburn Country Club in Durham, N.C. after shooting 70-73-73-76 (292) and made the cut by one shot. Pieczynski, of Kingston, Pa., is fourth on Penn State¡¯s all time scoring list and was a two-time GCAA All-America Scholar. He holds the 36-hole record at Penn State after firing a 136 at the 2002 Georgetown Invitational, and he won the 28th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate, hosted by Penn State, in 2004.

Former Nittany Lion golfer Matt Abbott (1997-2001) finished tied for 29th at plus-one after shooting rounds of 70-71-70-72 (283) but missed the cut by one shot at the Martin Downs Country Club in Palm City, Fl. Abbott, second on Penn State¡¯s all time scoring list at 73.64, won four tournaments during his collegiate career and was a selected for the All-Big Ten team in 2001.

The second round of the PGA qualifying school begins on November 15 at six different locations throughout the United States.
