CHICAGO, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the selection of Penn State junior JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) as the league’s Golfer of the Week. Hughes carded a 14-under par performance in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate to lead the Nittany Lions to the tournament title over the weekend.
Hughes fired a career-low 6-under 66 in round one, followed by back-to-back rounds of 4-under 68. His 14-under 202 total was good enough for second place individually for his first top-five finish of his career. The 54-hole total of 202 is tied for the third-lowest in program history.
This is Hughes’ first career Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor. He helped lead the Nittany Lions to their second tournament title of the fall with a team total 833 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Penn State won the team trophy for the second time in three years. The 833 total tied the mark for the second lowest 54-hole total in program history.
