Rohanna and Foley Lead Penn State Men¡¯s Golf Team to Fifth Place Finish at Big 5 Classic

Flourtown, Pa., October 15, 2006 ¨C The Penn State men¡¯s golf team played consistent golf at the Big 5 Classic, finishing fifth in a field of 15 teams. The two-day tournament, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, was played at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, a 6,834, par-71 course.

Columbia University (295-296, +23) dominated the field, as two of its players tied for the individual crown. Columbia sophomore Chris Arkin (73-73, +4) defeated his teammate, junior Chris Condello (74-72, +4), in the first playoff hole to earn medallist honors.

Junior Robert Rohanna (Waynesboro, Pa.) finished in a tie for 10th place with six other players at plus-nine, including freshman Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.). Rohanna shot rounds of 78 and 73 while Foley posted scores of 73 and 78.

Saturday¡¯s round was delayed due to darkness. Play resumed early Sunday morning with a shotgun start at noon for the start of the second round. Penn State (305-304, +41) entered the second round in sixth place, ten shots behind eventual champion Columbia.

Junior Harvin Groft (78-78, +14) finished in a tie for 35th. Freshman Jim Markovitz (82-75, +15) finished one shot behind Groft, in a tie for 37th place and sophomore Chad Bricker (76-84, +18) finished tied for 44th.

Penn State will travel to Georgetown University next weekend, October 21-22, for the Georgetown Hoya Invitational.
