Sapporito Named Academic All-American

University Park, Pa. -On September 30, 2000, Mike Sapporito was named a Spalding Top Flite Golf Coaches Association of America Academic All-American for the 1999-2000 season. The senior Management major from Macedon, New York was also named to the Spalding Top Flite GCAA All-American team last season.

Sapporito qualified for the award by holding a 3.2 grade point average and a scoring average of 74.52. He also played in at least 75% of the Lions' scheduled contests during the course of the 1999-2000 season.

During the fall season, Sapporito finished tied for tenth at the Temple Invitational and tied for eleventh at the James Madison Invitational. In the spring, Sapporito paced 16th at the Silver Spring Shores Tournament and 20th at the Kauai College Cup. At the Big Ten Championships, Sapporito finished 26th and at the NCAA East Regional he finished 27th.

"This is the second consecutive year Mike has received this distinction," Head Coach Greg Nye said. "Mike had a very good year for us, both on and off the golf course. He was very deserving."
