Men¡¯s Golf Team in Third Place after Two Rounds at Alister Mackenzie Invitational

Fairfax, Ca., October 9, 2006 ¨C The Penn State men¡¯s golf team is in third place after two rounds at the fifth annual Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Ca. Penn State fired rounds of 287 and 274 for seven-under on the day. Their second round score of 274 was the best in a field of 15 teams. Host team California (268-275, -25) holds a substantial lead over San Jose State (278-275, -15) in the team standings.

Junior Robert Rohanna (Waynesboro, Pa.) shot rounds of 69 and 68 for five-under. He sits in a four-way tie for fifth place. Freshman Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa.) also fared well with rounds of 72 and 66 for four-under and is tied for ninth place.

California senior Michael Wilson and sophomore George Gandranata lead the tournament at ten-under and eight-under, respectively.

The two-day tournament is being held at the Meadow Club, a 6,606-yard, par-71 course. Play continues Tuesday, October 10 in Fairfax.
