Men's Golf In 8th At Provident Invite After Day 1
MASON, OHIO- The Penn State men's golf team stands tied for eighth after the first day of action at Xavier's Provident Invitational. After 36 holes, Western Kentucky paces the field of 19 with a 562 (-6), followed by Marshall at 564 (-4), and Ohio with a 566 (-2). Host Xavier and Ball State are tied for fourth with a 567 (-1), while Michigan and Notre Dame are tied for sixth at 569 (+1). Penn State and Wright State share the eighth spot with a 576 (+8). Individually, Ohio's Erik Herberth holds the top spot after firing a 131 (-11) at the par 71 Grizzly Course. Westner Kentucky's Eric Mason is second at 135 (-7), while Xavier's Miles Mailley is third at 136 (-6). Junior Jim Fuller (Muskogee, Okla.) paces the Nittany Lions with a 143 (+1) to stand 18th. Freshman Mark Leon (Brampton, Ont.), who shot a two-under 69 in the second round, is 26th with a 144 (+2), while senior Jeff Turton (Ithaca, N.Y.) is 30th with a 145 (+3).
