Men's Golf in 10th Place after Two Rounds at the Memphis Intercollegiate
University Park, Pa., October 4, 2004 - The Penn State men's golf team shot a two round score of 600 (+24) in the first day of the Memphis Intercollegiate held at the par-72 Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn. The University of Central Florida leads the 16-team field after firing a 579 (+3). Host university, Memphis, holds the second spot with a two round score of 583 (+7) followed by Xavier (+5), Mississippi State (+12) and Louisville (+14) to round out the top five. Senior Mark Leon (Brampton, Ohio) leads all Nittany Lion golfers ending his day in 12th place with a score of 146 (+2). Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, Pa.) was not far behind Leon as he shot a 147 (+3) to finish in a tie for 17th place. Freshman Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) place in a tie for 51st with a score of 153 (+9). Marco Poccia (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) shot a 154 (+10) while senior Ted Neville (Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished with a score of 157 (+13). Neal Grusczynski of Xavier leads all individual golfers heading into the final round after firing a 141 (-3) which includes a second round score of 69. Andreas Hoegberg and Stefan Wistorf of UCF both finished in a tie for second place after the two each shot a 143 (-1). The third round of the Memphis Intercollegiate will be held tomorrow starting at 8:00 a.m. The Nittany Lions will next be in action from Oct. 16-17 when the team travels to Philadelphia, Pa. to participate in the Penn/Big 5 Classic.
